August is a time of transition. Summer to fall, students going back to school, farmers preparing for harvest. Seasons change. Hancock County Economic Development has made some changes to enhance the economic vitality of our County.
We have our new website, www.growhancock.com up and going, and are getting some responses. Our Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn are growing in more looks, likes, and responses. We continue following our strategic plan’s three areas:
- Business Retention and Expansion—I have visited 12 businesses this past quarter. All are doing well and some are increasing employee count. Work continues to develop infrastructure in different areas of the County. The County CEO program continues to flourish.
- Workforce Development—HCED is looking forward to having a Job Fair on September 13 at the U of I Extension Center. We will be meeting with our school administrators to discuss ways of enhancing our students’ workforce skills. Through Stronger Economies Together (SET), we continue to partner with Lee and Clark Counties on workforce issues; and in tourism, we are looking for ways to have more hiking and biking trails.
- Marketing and Recruitment—We are involved with the Communications Focus Group, providing funds for a business plan, to have a radio station back in Hancock County. Hancock County Broadcasting, LLC, has been formed and has begun broadcasting live.
We invite you to our Annual Meeting on Sept. 27. Please RSVP to [email protected] by Sept. 24.
